Camber is a village on the south coast of Sussex, England. It is situated beside the sand dunes of the River Rother estuary which lead to the nearby Camber Sands and is also not far from Rye, Winchelsea, Icklesham, and Peasmarsh and is one of over 80 towns or villages in Sussex in which Go2 has cottages or holidays lets available. The nearest main cities are Canterbury (population 43,552), Brighton And Hove (population 206,628), and London (which has a population of 7,172,091 according to the 2001 Census).
Camber became well known for golf because of the Rye Golf Links which were built in the late 1890s on the sand dunes on the shore of Rye Bay. With the building of hotels and the opening of the Rye and Camber Tramway the area increased in popularity as a tourist resort. Camber Castle, also known as Winchelsea Castle, is well worth a visit. It was built by Henry VIII in the 1500s as a defence of the western entrance to "the Camber".
